Susan Hughes is a full-time tutor and also
the Coordinator of the Bruce Math Center. She has been with the Center since August 2002. Susan taught Mathematics for over 15 years at the University of Missouri. Most recently she served as an individual tutor for The Learning Center at the University of Missouri. She has master's degrees in both Mathematics and Accountancy from the University of Missouri.
Harry Lewis began tutoring at the Bruce Math
Center in the fall of 2008. He is a retired high school
math teacher. His last 25 years of high school teaching
were at Rock Bridge High School in Columbia where a
variety of college prep coursework was taught. Also,
the last 10 years included teaching AP Statistics.
Magdalene Pride started tutoring part-time at the
Bruce Math Center during the Fall 2007 semester.
She is currently a full-time student at Columbia
College, pursuing bachelor's degrees in forensic science
and chemistry in addition to a major in mathematics and
a minor in music.
Vickie Spain began tutoring at the Bruce Math
Center in the fall of 2008. Vickie earned a B.S. in
Mechanical Engineering at North Carolina State
University and a B.A. in Middle School Education at
Columbia College. She has taught Mathematics at
Hallsville Middle School and Columbia Independent School
as well as middle school science at Christian Chapel
Academy.
Laurie Weaver
is a full-time tutor at the Bruce Math Center. She
graduated with a B.S. in mathematics from Columbia
College in May 2008. She has tutored high school
students privately in algebra and geometry over the
years, and home-schooled her three (now grown) children
for five years. She was a substitute teacher and
teacher's aide at Christian Fellowship School from 2001
to 2003, which included teaching two geometry classes
for 9 weeks. She took several Master's level courses in
instructional techniques through the SMARRT program at
MU for 6 months after graduation. This included tutoring
at Rock Bridge High summer school and interning daily at
West Junior High in Honors Algebra and Geometry courses
during the fall semester of 2008.
