The R. Marvin Owens Soccer Field at the Columbia College main campus is receiving a facelift. The college recently began a $240,000 renovation of the 13-year-old field.
Bob Hutton, director of plant and facilities operations, said the improvements include expanding the field; planting new grass next spring for a smoother playing area; improving drainage; and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of east campus through the removal of the outdoor tennis courts and the installation of new bleachers.
The soccer field is named in honor of R. Marvin Owens, who has served on the Columbia College Board of Trustees since 1975.
