Why Study Educational Leadership? 

This Master of Education in Educational Leadership (MED) program offers certified teachers the chance to delve into the theoretical and practical aspects of school and instructional leadership. We guide you through the multifaceted landscape of school governance and educational laws, preparing you to be a catalyst for change in your classrooms, departments, and school districts.

Our Master of Education program is tailored for certified teachers with classroom experience who value the standards-based approach to assessing performance levels.

Prerequisites

Applicants should provide a copy of teaching certificate. Applicants may seek admission to the M.Ed. program during their second year of teaching or after, beginning coursework the second semester of the second year, at the earliest. Students not meeting admission requirements may be approved for conditional admission at the discretion of the Dean of the School of Public Service.

Students in the MED program may select an emphasis in: 

  • School Leader (K-12) Certification
  • Gifted Certification  
  • Reading Specialist Certification  
  • Instructional Coach

All four emphasis areas are available through the main campus in Columbia, Missouri; the School Leader (K-12) emphasis is also available through the Online campus. 

School Leader, Gifted, and Special Reading certification is through the State of Missouri and may require additional coursework that is not required for the degree.

Where You Can Take Classes

At Columbia College, our flexible options make it easy to adapt to changing circumstances and pursue your education wherever life takes you. Many of our degrees are offered 100% online. If you prefer a traditional classroom experience, you can attend selected classes at our nationwide locations or at our main campus in Columbia, Missouri. Students at all locations will engage with multiple learning methods, including online and virtual while completing their degree.
