Title IX Education and Prevention Programs

Because the College recognizes that the prevention of sexual harassment is important, it offers educational programming on an annual and ongoing basis to a variety of groups such as: campus personnel; incoming students and new employees participating in orientation; and members of athletic teams and other student organizations.

Among other elements, such training covers relevant definitions, procedures, and sanctions; how to make a report; the identities and roles of the Title IX Coordinator, Deputy Title IX Coordinator(s), confidential advisors, and other resources; safe and positive options for bystander intervention; and risk reduction information, including recognizing warning signs of abusive behavior and how to avoid potential attacks.

For a list of specific programs offered, please see the College's Annual Security Report. The College will continue to assess efforts being utilized to educate students and employees about responsible and appropriate behavior as well as the resources and support provided for victims.

SafeColleges Online Training Program

The Columbia College community is one that values a culture of care within the educational environment and thus is always looking for ways to foster that caring community. The College provides a training program through Student Success for the campus community entitled SafeColleges.

SafeColleges includes a full suite of interactive online audience-specific programs informed by contemporary research and driven by cutting-edge education theories, including social norming theory and motivational interviewing techniques. To help build viewer empathy to reduce interpersonal violence, programs feature true testimonials from real survivors of interpersonal violence, as well as real stories from real bystanders who intervened in dangerous situations.

Should you be interested in participating in this opportunity, please contact the Title IX Coordinator, Kristie Douglas, at KJDouglas@ccis.edu.
