Dr. Mark Price

Dr. Mark Price first joined Columbia College as a visiting assistant professor of philosophy in 2001. He was hired as an assistant professor at the college the following year, and was promoted to associate professor in 2007 before attaining full professorship in 2012. He previously served as a faculty representative to the board from 2007-09.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Georgia, and both an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, all in philosophy. Dr. Price’s area of specialization is in ethics and moral philosophy, with his dissertation and subsequent scholarship focusing in this area. Dr. Price teaches a wide variety of courses at Columbia College, primarily in ethics and the history of philosophy. His previous administrative service to the college includes a four-year stint as director of the college’s Honors Program, as well as seven years as chair of the Humanities Department.

Dr. Price has served on hospital ethics committees at both Boone Hospital Center and the University of Missouri. After obtaining a grant from the Higher Education and Leadership Ministries HELM of the Disciples of Christ, he developed the Summer Ethics Academy and conducted it for three years. He also co-founded and serves as the coordinator and host of the Missouri High School Ethics Bowl, now in its ninth year.
