Recruit Columbia College talent using Handshake

Connect with Columbia College students/alumni on Handshake. Handshake is the online recruiting system for the Grossnickle Career Services Center. Handshake is a free career services management system available to employers 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Registering for a Handshake account gives your company the following options:

  • Ability to create an employer profile
  • Ability to post job and internship opportunities for Columbia College students/alumni
  • Opportunity to view student/alumni resumes
  • Ability to register for Career Services events, Career Fairs and Information Sessions

On-campus recruiting

Increase employer visibility on campus by scheduling an Information Session. Or host an information table in the student commons or dining hall.

These opportunities allow employers to:

  • Notify Columbia College students of current internship and employment opportunities
  • Establish connections with Columbia College students

On-campus interviewing

Use on-campus recruiting to interview students at Columbia College. A job description for the position(s) is required for on-campus interviews. To schedule a time to interview students on campus, please email Career Services at CareerServices@CCIS.edu or call (573) 875-7425.

Attend our Career Fair!

The Career Services Center coordinates a Spring Career Fair. Our Career Fair provides an excellent opportunity for employers to meet with students and alumni from Columbia College. This event is FREE for employers to attend.

Purpose

Career Services makes facilities and services available to employing organizations with full-time, part-time or summer jobs; or internships. It is important that employers using campus facilities interact with students, alumni, and staff in a professional and ethical manner. The following policy governs the manner in which employers may use the Grossnickle Career Services Center to access candidates.

Scope

The policy applies to all employing organizations participating in recruiting programs and events organized by the Grossnickle Career Services Center.

Employer Eligibility

The Grossnickle Career Services Center serves organizations employing volunteers, part-time, full-time, internship, temporary and permanent positions.

Non-Discrimination Policy

Right of Refusal

Career Services reviews each employing organization profile and job posting to determine if it is appropriate for the college community.  Grossnickle Career Services Center does not guarantee a submission will be endorsed, represented or listed on the college website, social media, or approved for use on the online job posting database.

Compensation and postings:

The Grossnickle Career Services Center’s services are open to employers. The job description’s compensation details must clearly state how the employee will be compensated. This includes stating whether a position is 100 percent commission or if it includes a base salary (if partially commission-based). If detailed compensation information is not provided, the position will not be posted.

The Career Center will not post job opportunities that are fee based. Internship postings must clearly state if it is a paid or unpaid internship. Every employer with wage-based positions must comply with minimum wage rates set forth by the local, state, and federal government and the United States Department of Labor's Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Other considerations in refusing a job posting may include: 

  • Employee bears financial responsibility for required supplies, equipment or training
  • Compensation is 100 percent commission
  • Company practices door-to-door and/or aggressive sales model
  • Employee promotes ownership opportunities for branch or franchise
  • Company promotes multi-level marketing tactics
  • Positions takes place at a private residence
  • Positions that call for students to act in roles such as Campus Brand Ambassadors, Campus Managers/Reps and/or Campus Marketing Assistants - or any other position that is similar

    Approval for all roles are subject to the discretion of the Director of Career Services.

Incomplete/false/unfounded employer information

In order to post a position through Grossnickle Career Services Center, employers must provide specific information about their organization, including a valid website, a non-residential address, a commercial email address and a detailed organization description. Employers and recruiters unable to identify themselves as a legitimate organization may be rejected/deleted from the system.
