Purpose
Columbia College values the health, safety, and wellbeing of its students, faculty, and staff, and consistent with this commitment, this policy helps provide guidance and direction for College related international travel.
Scope
This policy applies to all members of the College community traveling abroad on College sanctioned trips.
Policy
The U.S. Department of State (USDOS) has a travel advisory system for countries around the world. Columbia College does not facilitate travel to any country or location designated as Level 3 or 4 Travel Advisory by the USDOS. In addition, the College may withdraw approval for international travel at any time when a significant health or safety concern arises as indicated by authorities other than the USDOS, such as the Center for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), peer institutions, overseas partners, etc.
The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service to allow U.S. citizens and nationals travelling abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. STEP makes it possible for travelers to be contacted in case of an emergency in the U.S. or destination country. Participants traveling on Columbia College sanctioned trips are required to enroll in STEP prior to departure. To register, visit step.state.gov/step.
